When I perform a massage one of my prime objectives is to promote circulation in areas that are congested and sluggish.
My second aim is to make my client feel really good because the better they feel the more dominant the parasympathetic system becomes and they relax. I was not taught these techniques but came upon them through trial and error and using what felt right. I am pretty sure though that therapists have been using these techniques for centuries .
I use a fair amount of pressure although it may look quite superficial at speed. All parts of the hand can be used including the back of the hand and wrist.
After using an energetic technique follow it up with pumping and squeezing to calm the area down and enhance the circulatory effect.
These techniques take practice so try them out on clients that are up for it and get your own rythm.
