Assessment and Diagnosis

This course will systematically cover all areas of the body from the ankle up to the neck. We will learn that not everything needs to be stretched. Muscles are often tight because of poor movement lower or higher up the kinetic chain. Muscles can be weak, long or short and strong and a good therapist knows that stability and strength are just as important as as flexibility and mobility.

Common painful conditions of the neck, shoulder, lower back and knee are examined and the biomechanical causes of these will be explained. Most importantly solutions to these conditions in the form of correcting the movements that cause pain will be covered.

A good example of this would be lower back pain, many clients with this condition have poor hip mobility which causes the lower back to compensate and move too much. A lower back that moves too much will have pain and inflammation. In this case we would improve hip mobility and lower back stability.

Yoga teachers, Thai massage therapists, Osteopaths, Physical therapists and any movement practitioner will benefit from this workshop.

Harmonics and Joint Manipulation

  • Soft tissue techniques to release restrictions in the fascia and muscle including active release and pin and stretch.
  • Cross fibre kneading with harmonics.
  • Joint pumping and harmonics to enhance joint centration and blood flow.
  • Manipulation and mobilisation of joints.
  • Muscle energy techniques for stronger and safer stretching.

Many of these techniques borrow from osteopathy, rolfing, Thai massage, trigger point therapy and sports massage.

There are many different ways to touch the body and have a positive influence. It is important to have an open mind and learn from as many different modalities as possible. I believe this course does just that.
